This week a new technique was launched on the web for automatically adding special affects to images. Called SWIFR it uses Flash to automatically apply pre-programmed styles to images published in webpages. These styles can include borders, rounded corners, drop shadows, tilting effects, and even mirrored floor effects.
If you are interested in applying these techniques to your website then visit the SWIFR site to check out the examples. Contact us about their implementation.
The key advantages are:
- automatic implementation - the effects get applied for you automatically, so your job as an image publisher is no more complicated
- End results - to achieve these sorts of affects would normally require time and training with expensive graphics packages applied per image
- Accessibility - the technique degrades gracefully for those minority of visitors whose browsers can't or won't display Flash. In their case they simply see the normal images without any special affects.
- Low cost - the technique is an open source technique freely published on the web. Implementing it on the average site would take an hour or less.
